Silky Terriers - Care
Silky Terriers are prone to tangles and mats and need daily combing and brushing. The coat must be trimmed occasionally, and the hair on the legs from the knees down is often trimmed short. The hair that falls over the eyes is tied up in a topknot so the dog will be able to see easier. It is recommended to bathe the coat daily to keep it in a top condition. The Silky Terrier sheds little to no hair.
Silky Terriers - Adopting a Dog
Silky Terriers that are looking for a new home tend to be 4 years old or older. Since rescue Silky Terriers come from different circumstances, it is rather hard to generalize and make conclusions as to what health, training and behavior problems they have. Some rescue Silky Terriers are housetrained, some are not. Some Silky Terriers need some revisited on what basic doggy rules of behavior are. There are shy and aggressive Silky Terriers. More often than not, behavioral changes are due to lack of socialization or neglect and abuse.
If you do not want to train the dog, do not adopt. Even the best-trained Silky Terriers need constant attention and consistent training sessions.
Each shelter or rescue organization has its policy. All rescues do not place dogs that are not spayed/neutered. A rescue group screens all potential adopters to be able to place rescue Silky Terriers in the most suitable loving homes.
