Silky Terriers - General Description
Silky Terriers belong to the toy terrier group. The Silky Terrier is low set, slightly longer than it is tall. It is of refined bone structure, but of sufficient substance to suggest the ability to hunt and kill domestic rodents. The silky coat is parted from the top to the tail. Blue and tan colors are acceptable. The dog's strong head is moderately long. The small ears are V-shaped, and carried erect. The small, almond-shaped eyes are dark. The strong teeth should meet in a scissors bite.
The chest is medium-wide, and the neck is long. The forelegs are strong and straight. The catlike feet are round and compact. The feet point straight ahead. The tail is docked and set high.

Silky Terriers are loving, intelligent little dogs. They are courageous and alert; friendly and sociable; and they strive to be close to their master. However, those who accept them to be just "mellow" lap dogs are mistaken. Silky Terriers are full of energy and keen interest.
These silky dogs are watchful and protective. Silky Terriers are very loving with children if they are raised with them, but they can be snappish. These dogs should not be rough-handled or teased. Silky Terriers are wonderful travel companions. They also make excellent watchdogs, but tend to become barkers if not controlled. Silky Terriers are reserved with strangers and not generally trustworthy with other pets. Silky Terriers are known to pick fights with other dogs, as they have a bright terrier nature. Training these dogs is very rewarding because it is very eager to learn. Silky Terriers are good for apartment life, as they are very active indoors and will do well without a yard.
